Ljubljana Workshop
The Nuts and Bolts of an Interoperable Knowledge Commons
In Ljubljana we will have a 2-day workshop (13, 14 February) preceded by a seminar day (12 February) in which workshop participants will educate each other about the various concepts and topics that we collaborate on in this multidisciplinary Action. In practice, seminars on the complex biology of Gene Regulation will enlighten ontology developers and computational biologists, and seminars on the various uses of computer tools on omics data and resources of the Gene Regulation Knowledge Commons will clarify to biologists what types of resources are available and how this can help them understand Gene Regulation from a Systems perspective.

Tue 13.02 – Wed 14.02: Workshop
The main topic of the Workshop will be the special session on ‘Representing and Assessing Transcription Factor Binding Specificity’ (RATFBS). Several of the invited speakers from non-COST countries will give short seminars in the morning session on 13.02. After that we will have 3 lengthy break-out sessions.
Tue 13.02: Opening and introductions
09:00 – 10:00: Opening and short updates from the 4 Working groups – Action point progress
10:00 – 13:00: Seminars from invited RATFBS experts
14:00 – 17:30: Break-out sessions:
Each session will start with a few short presentations on topics/proposals that need to be discussed in the break-out subgroup.
Session 1: Representing and Assessing Transcription Factor Binding Specificity
Session 2: Data curation: Survey of ontologies and the gene regulation molecular systems that they should cover (see below for content)
Session 3: Data sharing: Representation formats, sharing mechanisms, interoperability issues (see below for content)
17:30 – 18:00: Short summary of progress in Plenary session
Wed 14.02: Break-outs and wrap-up
9:00 – 13:00: Continuation of Break-outs
14:00 – 16:00: Finalising break-out discussions, document writing
16:00 – 17:00: Plenary meeting, Action points, next steps
